My Computer Caused Me Trapped Nerve

Keeping the head straight all day while you stare at a computer screen is hard work for the neck muscles and they are one of the areas of our body that positively soak up tension. A Trapped Nerve in the neck can cause you to feel soreness and pain all the way from the shoulders down to the fingers. This is a great stretch for releasing and counter-acting tension in your lateral neck muscles. As always, this is not medical advice, you use the stretch at your own risk and you should consult with your doctor before engaging in any physical exercise.

L-Theanine and Your Immune System

L-Theanine, an amino acid obtained from tea, has been found to support the immune system through its effect on T-cells (no comment on the pun). Chemically gamma-glutamylethylamide, this substance affects the capacity of gamma beta T-cells to fight disease. This type of T-cell lies somewhere between the innate and adaptive immune systems, the former referring to the rapid response to an invading pathogen and the adaptive system to the slower response that enables the immune system to develop a memory against subsequent invasion by the same pathogen.

A 2003 study at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, both in Boston, tested tea drinkers and coffee drinkers who drank the same amounts of their favorite drink daily. After 4 weeks, tea drinkers were found to have developed five times the anti-bacterial proteins of coffee drinkers, indicating a significantly stronger adaptive immune response.

So, if you want to avoid infections, drink more tea or take an L-Theanine supplement. The latter will allow you to continue drinking coffee rather than tea.  L-Theanine is available at your local or internet health food store in name brands like Source Naturals and Solaray.
